Founding partner Arthur N. From the time of his graduation in the first class of UCLA Law School, Mr. Greenberg’s  practice included complex litigation and multimillion dollar business transactions over decades involving high-stake legal matters and legal firsts.  Selected by his peers, Mr. Greenberg is included in the book “Best Lawyers in America.”  He feels too young to have been referred to as a “Legend” in a recent edition of the publication “Super Lawyers of Southern California,” a term frequently used by others to describe him.

Defining a Firm, Shaping Southern California

As Mr. Greenberg’s many legal achievements shaped the Firm and Southern California’s evolving legal landscape, he simultaneously established a strong philanthropic tradition at the Firm.  This was an expression of both a professional obligation and a personal belief  that as lawyers, all of us are required to help maintain the philanthropic and cultural life of our community.  As such, Mr. Greenberg became a contributor to, and officer and director of, numerous organizations serving the community, the state and the nation.  In addition, he has been joined in such organizations by other members of the Firm.

Mr. Greenberg continues his active role as the Firm’s legal lion and is a regular guiding presence to his colleagues.  His vision for the Firm remains as it was at its founding in 1959.  He says, “I want Greenberg Glusker to be known as dedicated to achieving our clients’ goals in an honorable, ethical fashion and as a firm of lawyers with the highest skills, intelligence and integrity.”

• Successfully defended the chairman and chief executive officer of a major savings and loan association in numerous class, derivative and other actions seeking hundreds of millions of dollars of damages
• Represented a regional shopping center in a three-month trial against an insurance company; the outcome of litigation resulted in the combination of two competing shopping centers into one of the largest shopping centers in the United States
• Successfully defended a European multinational media conglomerate in a trade secret misappropriation case brought by one of the largest publicly owned computer software companies
• Represented three mutual funds on behalf of 10,000 shareholders in the recovery from banks, trust companies of assets looted by the funds' officers and directors
• Obtained a treble damage judgment in a jury trial in favor of the producer of an award winning motion picture against a studio for violation of the Sherman Anti- Trust Act arising out of block booking the film to CBS Television
• Represented a public figure who was involved in the Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos civil and criminal cases
• Negotiated a settlement of a multimillion dollar securities fraud case involving an investment in a computer related business
• Negotiated an eight figure settlement with the RTC arising out of a joint venture relationship between a real estate developer and a failed savings and loan association
• Negotiated a settlement for a title insurance company after an adverse ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal on title insurance coverage issues in a case handled by other counsel; the settlement involved multiple cases pending in Hawaii and Alaska seeking tens of millions of dollars of damages
• Preserved the separate property assets of one of the largest property owners of Monterey Park, California, in a three-month divorce trial
• Served as an arbitrator in a dispute between two large motion picture production companies

Real Estate and Environmental Experience

• Obtained affirmance of the dismissal of the complaint in the action brought by the State of California against the owner of a high-rise office building, (976 F.2d 525 9th Cir. 1992), defeating a CERCLA claim for the cost of cleaning up asbestos released into the building as a result of a fire
• Acquisition of "The City" in Orange, California on behalf of a real estate developer, in conjunction with Holiday Inns, Kaiser Aluminum, Great Lakes Properties and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company
• Acquisition, development, expansion, construction, leasing, land use and environmental matters for Del Amo Fashion Center, one of the largest shopping centers in the country
• Settled on behalf of the owner of a large shopping center, a lawsuit by a tenant for breach of lease and fraud, which lawsuit could have become a class action for the benefit of all of the tenants
• Settled on behalf of a landowner, an environmental lawsuit brought against two major oil companies, which resulted in the landowner receiving lost rental income plus attorneys' and consultants' fees, in addition to remediation of the property

Corporate Experience

• Negotiated the buyout of one of the partners/producers of the production company of several hugely successful and award winning television series
• Negotiated the buyout of the investors of Redondo Beach Marina
• Represented a National Football League team in its initial public offering

Tax and Estate Experience

• Defended in the United States Tax Court a several hundred million dollar self-dealing IRS tax assessment against one of the executors of the estate of the deceased artist, Mark Rothko; the ultimate settlement resulted in no taxes paid by the estate
• Obtained court reformation of a $200 million testamentary trust and negotiated with the IRS to achieve desired estate tax objectives
• Settled on behalf of a widow, litigation brought by her against her deceased husband's estate on the ground that she did not have independent counsel at the time she consented to her husband's will which deprived her of her share of a multimillion dollar estate
• Negotiated a settlement on behalf of a trust beneficiary of a multi-hundred million trust based in the Midwest; the trust was the majority owner of a publicly owned communications and media company headquartered in the south and the dispute was among family members

Employment Experience

• Negotiated the termination of an employment agreement, including severance payment and voiding a non competition agreement, on behalf of the CEO of a national investment banking firm, which firm had been acquired by a major bank
• Negotiated the termination of employment of the head of mergers & acquisitions of an international investment banking firm
• Voided a multi-million dollar long-term written employment contract of the president of a publishing and entertainment company in a two-month trial
