IP Attorney Handles Cutting-Edge Copyright Cases for Godzilla, Lassie and Spider-Man
Greenberg Glusker today announced that partner Aaron J. Moss has been named among the Daily Journal’s Top 75 Intellectual Property Litigators in California for his representation of high-profile entertainment industry clients in complex, content-driven IP conflicts.
“Aaron’s incisive perspective on copyright and related IP issues is extremely valuable, both within the Firm and in the entertainment community,” said Greenberg Glusker’s Managing Partner Norman H. Levine. “Aaron has added to the Firm’s core strength in entertainment law to help our clients meet the next generation of entertainment industry IP challenges.”
Mr. Moss, whose practice emphasizes copyright infringement litigation, has handled a number of recent closely-watched cases resulting in published Ninth Circuit opinions. He argued on behalf of Classic Media, Inc. against the heirs of “Lassie Come Home” author Eric Knight in a case defining the contours of the Copyright Act’s statutory termination provisions. He also defended Costco Wholesale Corporation against watch manufacturer Omega in a dispute involving the Copyright Act’s “first sale doctrine.”
One of “Godzilla’s” lawyers, Mr. Moss has been an integral part of a comprehensive and vigorous IP enforcement campaign for the character’s owner, Toho Co., Ltd, which has pitted him in litigation against book publishers, toy companies, fast food restaurants and wineries. Mr. Moss also represents actor Tom Cruise in media and publicity-related legal matters.
In January, Mr. Moss was one of two Greenberg Glusker attorneys who arbitrated and won a multi-million dollar award on behalf of a film finance company against a major motion picture studio. His current litigation matters include representing Marvel, owner of the iconic Spider-Man character; representing German social networking site StudiVZ in its dispute with Facebook; and representing Stanley Donen, the famed director of “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Funny Face” against Paramount and The Gap.
“It is an honor to receive this recognition and be included with an impressive list of IP litigators,” said Moss. “I’m fortunate to be able to help our clients protect and defend their rights in creative works. While technology and delivery systems are always changing, the need for intellectual property owners to safeguard creative content remains constant.”
Mr. Moss is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, and earned his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from University of California, Los Angeles, where he was also Phi Beta Kappa. He is a sought-after media commentator who has been quoted on such high-profile content controversies as the “Harry Potter” books, Bratz dolls and numerous “idea theft” cases. Mr. Moss, who is a member of the Firm’s Strategic Planning Committee, has been included on the “Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars” list of distinguished attorneys for the past six years.
